A few classmates were not able to get their memory books notes in before the book was published. So I have opened a new blog page just for that purpose. If you would like to add a note, please send it to me and I will add it to this post.
Carolyn Roy Cope
My parents moved here in the early 30's. My father was an immigrant from Quebec, Canada and my mother moved here following her brother and his wife, Martha Boggs, who became one of the first teachers at the new high school. My folks bought a small house on McNeill Avenue where I now live in a much newer and larger house. My father opened Roy's Market in Leucadia.
Sports was my saving grace as I ended up lettering in field hockey, basketball and volleyball. Academia was not my strong suit! I was also a Thespian, performing in many events. My junior year is when I met my future husband, Tom Cope. We enjoyed all of the fun and craziness of our senior year. Tom went on to UCSD and I to Palomar College. We married in 1971.
We moved to Houston, Texas when Tom was accepted to medical school. Fulfilling our Navy obligation we were stationed in Misawa, Japan. In 1981 we moved back to Texas for Tom to complete his medical specialty. I opened Rising Sun Gallery, a Japanese Art & Antique Gallery. We moved back to Encinitas in 1988. Tom passed in 2013. We had three children. I now have four grandchildren. I currently utilize my large house as a Guest House. I am president of the Encinitas Historical Society and am active in volunteering in my beloved community. I am grateful that I was able to “return to my roots” in Encinitas!

My grandparents moved to Encinitas in 1929, when my mother was one year old. I moved in with them in 1965 after I lost my family in a boating accident. I then attended San Dieguito High School and graduated in 1968. My favorite classes were Mr. Hembree's glee club and Mr. Stuckenschneider's math. Favorite memories include donkey basketball, madrigal performances, snow day and spending days at Moonlight Beach.
After graduation I attended NAU in Flagstaff, AZ, where I got my BS in teaching. I met my husband, Len, who majored in Forestry, in October of my freshman year. We married in 1971 and lived in many places through the years; Montana, Colorado, Wyoming, Kentucky and New Mexico. After retiring we moved back to Grand Junction, CO. We raised four children and now have nine grandchildren. I came close to not being able to attend the 50th, as we were in a car accident just two weeks before.
I enjoy quilting and reading. The most important thing in our lives is serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
